CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Eyewitness News obtained a list detailing the top road projects in Charlotte that the Department of Transportation would like to fund either fully or partially within the next 10 years.
“Hopefully when it's done, things will be better,” Corrender Tabro said.
Drivers have already been dealing with construction on Independence Boulevard. Some said it's even hurting local businesses.
“It's driving people away because it's so hard to get in there,” Christine Cruce said. “There's only one way in now.”
Interstate 485 could get express toll lanes from Independence Boulevard to Interstate 77.
“I'm not very fond of toll lanes because we pay enough taxes so that should take care of the cost,” Tabro said. “We shouldn’t have to pay to drive again.”
The list also includes improvements to intersections along the Billy Graham Parkway. DOT officials told Channel 9 the list of projects is fluid. They could be funded or not funded depending on what transportation officials decide in the future. There will be public hearings before plans are complete in June 2015.
