Dozens march in a 'Black Lives Matter' rally

Demonstrators gathered in Lancaster Saturday night to call for unity between communities and law enforcement agencies nationwide.

The local rally came just one day after the Chicago Police Department released a video that shows the moments that led up to the deadly shooting of an 18-year-old black man last week.

Organizers of Saturday's 'Black Lives Matter' demonstration in Lancaster told Channel 9 that they're simply calling for peace.

Organizer Shanequal Blakeney said similar rallies held in the area recently have strengthened relationships between local officers and members of the community. They said that they appreciate officers coming to talk to them, as Lancaster police did Saturday night.

Channel 9 spoke with the city's police chief, who talked about her unique perspective.

As the area's first African-American female chief, Harlean Carter, wants her community to know her department is filled with compassionate officers but also urges police to be more transparent.
