CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Dozens of people rallied in uptown Charlotte to support the Affordable Care Act, at the same time a leading Republican senator released Obamacare replacement details.
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said lawmakers need to legalize the sale of inexpensive insurance, which means getting rid of the Obamacare mandates on what people can buy. He said the plan would help people save through health savings accounts, as well as a tax credit.
Paul also said the replacement plan would also allow small businesses to bypass the state or federal exchange and create their own options to keep the market competitive.
“Out goal is to ensure the most amount of people give access to the most amount of people at the least amount of cost. And I think this is where Obamacare failed,” Paul said.
But if the Affordable Care Act is repealed without a plan in place, millions of Americans will lose their health care insurance.
Chris White, who is insured with Obamacare, rallied Sunday in uptown to try and keep the plan in place.
“I would not have insurance if it was not for the Affordable Care Act,” White said.
President-elect Donald Trump said he is almost finished working on the details of his replacement plan. He believes Congress will act in the coming weeks.
