Driver charged after passenger killed in crash near Huntersville

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Police have charged a man after a crash left one person dead Monday afternoon near Huntersville.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to the wreck around 2 p.m. on Old Statesville Road at Interstate 485.

Investigators said a black Honda Pilot was heading south on Old Statesville Road when the driver tried to turn left onto I-485. A Chevrolet S-10 heading north collided with the Honda.

The front passenger in the Chevrolet, Eudean Knox, 81, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the S-10, Curtis Thompson, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Investigators told Channel 9 that Thompson, 62, was speeding at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Honda, Mitchell Jones, suffered minor injuries and was cited for failure to yield right of way.

The crash remains under investigation.
