Michelle Johnson was given probation in a Lancaster courtroom Thursday and dodged a prison sentence of as much as 25 years.
Johnson drove away after hitting La'Darious Wylie in 2015 in Chester and told police she thought she'd hit a deer.
She made a tearful apology to the boy's family Tuesday.
“I'm so, so sorry,” Johnson said. “I've been wanting to tell you for a long, long time.”
The children were outside waiting for the school bus before the crash.
The other children at the bus stop called 911 and La’Darius was airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte, where he later died.
