Driver killed after car crashes into trees in York County, coroner says

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — South Carolina state troopers said a man was killed after their car ran off the road and overturned in York County overnight.

Troopers told Channel 9 the crash happened just before 1 a.m. on S.C. 5, near Poston Drive, just west of Rock Hill.

Investigators said the 2002 Acura ran off the right side of the highway, hit a culvert and then flipped, striking several trees.

The driver, 36-year-old Christopher Smith, was wearing a seat belt but did not survive.

It was unclear what caused the accident.
