Driver stopped for outstanding warrants strikes officer, triggering pursuit

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A police pursuit ensued Thursday afternoon after officers stopped a driver with outstanding warrants in the 200 block of S. Linwood Avenue.

Dennis Warren Hall, 33, struck an officer while fleeing, police said. Hall is charged with resist, delay, obstruct, flee to elude, misdemeanor assault on government official and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hall had five out standing warrant for his arrest, all felonies, including breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, common law robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Police followed the car until the driver jumped out and ran away near Exchange Street.

A passenger of the car was detained, and the driver was taken into custody after a chase on foot.

The officer sustained minor injuries, police said.
