ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — People living in Rowan County will hear plans Monday afternoon from Duke Energy officials on a multimillion-dollar plan for new water lines for families who live near coal ash ponds.
The $5 million proposal will cover 150 homes near the Buck Steam Station. Rowan County commissioners will discuss the proposal at 3 p.m. Monday.

A state law requires the water lines to be in place by October 2018 or Duke must offer homeowners a water treatment system.
Monday’s meeting will be held in the Rowan County Administration Building on West Innes Street.
Tons of coal ash sludge spilled into the Dan River over three years ago. Since then, thousands of people have been forced to use bottled water provided by Duke Energy.
