East Spencer only working fire truck topic of discussion

EAST SPENCER, N.C. — There is only one working fire truck in East Spencer and it's 25 years old, while two others are broken down.

The fire chief in East Spencer asked leaders Monday for an emergency meeting to talk about a solution to this problem but leaders declined that request.

The administrator said state law didn't allow the emergency meeting.

"We checked with our attorney. We knew we couldn't have an emergency meeting. And then we asked about a special meeting, and that was also declined because the board wanted to have more time to look at the situation since we already knew where we were,” said F.E. Isenhour, East Spencer interim town administrator.

Town leaders were made aware of the problem about three weeks ago.

The town administrator said the city has ample back up from the city of Salisbury and other local fire departments, while the department works with city leaders to find the best solution.

“The town is covered and has been always will be

," Isenhour said.

The town manager said the town will talk about how to solve this problem at the next town council meeting in two weeks.
