KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Emergency crews in Kannapolis are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened just after 11:30 a.m., near the intersection of Ridge Avenue and D Street.
Officials said the pedestrian and a friend were walking on the railroad tracks after visiting a store nearby.
The friend, who was not injured, told Kannapolis police that they were intoxicated and the victim was unable to get off the tracks once they noticed the train was heading toward them.
The victim's name has not been released because his family has not yet been notified.
