EMT training program at CPCC already recruiting more workers

CHARLOTTE — A program aimed at getting more EMS workers in Mecklenburg County is starting to have an impact.

For over a year, the MEDIC has had critical staffing shortages and longer response times.

In March, a new county-funded program provided an EMT course, books, and uniforms for free. The only catch was students would be required to work for MEDIC for at least one year after they complete the course.

“Very relieving. You go through all the stuff and it’s all very stressful and you get to this point and it’s like okay finally I’m out there,” EMT Madison McGreger said.

Applications for the next EMT class open on August 30th. Twenty students will be able to enroll here.
