Fake Facebook page leads to cyber bully investigation

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Cabarrus County authorities are investigating a case of cyber bullying that targeted a local teen.

The teen's family said someone set up a fake Facebook account and posted lewd messages, posing as the girl victim.

The 15-year-old girl's family said the ordeal has been a nightmare.

The victim's stepfather said he filed a report with the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office three days ago after his stepdaughter discovered the fake profile.

The page, which has her picture and name on it, had sexual postings.

The teen said the suspect contacted her through a cellphone number listed on her real Facebook page and asked her for naked pictures of her mom.

The victim's stepfather said when he tried to intervene, the suspect asked for $200 to remove the fake profile.
That's when he called authorities.

He said the entire ordeal has been stressful for his stepdaughter.

"She was just devastated, I mean, she just broke down," he said.

Eyewitness News called the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office multiple times Friday and stopped by to ask about the status of the investigation and if there are other local teens being targeted but there has been no response.
