CONCORD, N.C. — There was a somber and emotional moment at Charlotte Motor Speedway Saturday as North Carolina State Troopers honored Samuel Bullard.

A moment of silence was held for Bullard, who was killed in a crash earlier this week, at Saturday's Xfinity race.

Dakota Whitt was involved in a high-speed chase with Bullard on I-77 in Yadkin County.

Bullard crashed his cruiser and died.

"We lose a lot of officers every day across the country, so to have the opportunity to honor him here with the size crowd we're gonna have, and national TV audience, it’s a special honor that the track has allowed us to have," said Sgt. Kevin Owens, with the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Whitt, who is charged with murder, apologized this week in court.
