AG to present Kerrick case to Grand Jury

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — BREAKING UPDATE: The Attorney General's prosecutors will present their evidence in case involving Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Randall Kerrick to Grand Jury on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

If the Grand Jury returns a true bill of indictment, the AG's office will move forward to prosecute the charge in the Sept. 14 shooting death of Jonathan Ferrell.

Ferrell's family filed a lawsuit Monday night and announce who they are suing Tuesday.

Investigators said Officer Randall Kerrick shot Ferrell while responding to a disturbance call in September in northeast Charlotte.

Ferrell crashed his car, knocked on someone's door and was shot 10 times.

Kerrick is charged with voluntary manslaughter.

He has said he fired his gun because he was afraid for his life.

His preliminary hearing will be held next month.
