Family says it has no answers in connection to daughter's death

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — "It's been a year since Jasmine's death and we still haven't gotten justice," said Adeline J. Williams, Jasmine Thar's grandmother.

On Dec. 23, 2011, Thar was shot and killed while visiting relatives in Chadbourn.

Investigators said the bullet came from a neighbor's rifle. That person said it was an accident and, so far, as not been charged.

"We miss her. She loved, she was caring and she loved people. She was very active. At 16, she shouldn't have gone so soon. And we miss her very much," said Williams.

This afternoon, a small group of friends and family met outside Thar's former high school, Ardrey Kell in Ballantyne.

They met to pray, review the steps they've taken to find answers over the last year and look ahead.

"Someone should be sitting in jail until we find justice," said civil rights activist John C. Barnett.

Barnett has been working closely with the family since Thar's death.

They have met with the Columbus County district attorney trying to get answers.

The district attorney told us, they were still waiting on results from evidence they sent to the FBI for testing.

While friends and family wait for more information from investigators, they want to make sure people remembers a 16-year-old whose life ended too soon.
