Family wants justice for slain son

STATESVILLE, N.C. — A Statesville family is calling for justice for their son.

Joey Brewer was shot to death eight months ago, and police never made an arrest. On Friday night, more than 100 people gathered to pray for a breakthrough in the case.

"A part of my life has died, and all I'm asking for is that people will come together and pray," said his mother, Robin Brewer.

She told Eyewitness News her son was a father, a businessman and a little league coach who loved people.

"He had a heart. He would give you the shirt off his back. He loved everybody," she said.

On a late September night, police found Brewer shot several times inside of a vehicle at a Statesville apartment complex. He was rushed to a hospital and died.

Police have not announced any arrests, suspects or a motive.

Family members said they have lots of unanswered questions.

"Only God and Joey and the person who did this know why he was there," said Andrea Price, Brewer's sister.

Family members are asking the public to tell the police anything they know that might lead to an arrest.

"I hurt. I hurt so bad, and I want to see people held accountable for what's been done."

Eyewitness News contacted Statesville police Friday, and they said they could not comment on the case.
