BOONE, N.C. — Emergency crews responded to a deadly crash east of Boone on Thursday around 5:30 p.m.
Officials said one person has died.
Troopers said a maroon-colored 2012 Toyota Highlander was traveling southbound on Highway 421 and North Pine Run Road in Watauga County. It crossed the median into the northbound lane.
The Toyota hit a blue 2007 Jeep Patriot head on. The Highlander then continued, hit then flipped over the guardrail.
The Toyota was driven by 79-year-old Margaret Stechman of Boone. The Jeep was driven by Steven Havner of Boone. His front seat passenger, who has not been identified, was killed.
