Fire crews battle Monroe house fire

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Fire crews in Union County responded to a house fire Sunday.

Officials said they were dispatched to the single family home 4000 block of Waxwood Drive in Monroe around 4:04 p.m.

Officials said a passerby spotted the fire and called authorities.

Firefighters said they rescued one dog from inside the home and no one was home at the time of the fire.

Officials said heavy smoke and fire damage were visible in the garage area when firefighters arrived.

Fire crews said the fire spread to the attic above the garage.

According to reports all Monroe on duty firefighters responded to the blaze and Union County fire departments also assisted. The fire took approximately 30 minutes to bring under control, according to officials.

The fire caused in excess of $100,000 worth of damage to the home.

Red Cross is assisting the family Sunday.
