Firefighters battle blaze at salvage yard in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Firefighters battled a large fire Sunday night at a salvage yard called Parts U Pull and Salvage in north Charlotte.

The store is off Statesville Road near Twin Lakes Parkway. Firefighters asked hazmat crews to stand by as a precaution.

Statesville Road was closed. Firefighters were called out around 10 p.m. Officials said the tires at the business were making it hard to knock down the fire.

Bill Suthard with Huntersville Fire Department said the fire was burning hot, taking a toll on firefighters. Long Creek Fire Department received the original call and called for Huntersville and Charlotte fire departments for assistance.

Investigators determined the blaze was intentionally set.
