Firefighters battle house fire in Cornelius



CORNELIUS, N.C. - Firefighters are responding to a townhouse fire Wednesday afternoon in Cornelius off Bailey Road.

Cornelius police said Bailey Road from Highway 21 to Washam Potts Road was closed. The road reopened around 3:30 p.m.

One house was destroyed, but no one was inside.

Neighbors said they watched the flames rip through the buildings. Some neighbors were evacuated.

Investigators said the fire may have started with a motorcycle that was being charged and then spread to gas lines.
