Fire guts three-story home in Denver

DENVER, N.C. — Firefighters extinguished a massive fire at a three-story home Sunday evening in Lincoln County.

Crews responded to the fire just after 6:30 p.m. on Lake Shore Road in Denver.

The fire destroyed the home.

Channel 9’s cameras showed the home was gutted after the second floor and roof collapsed.

Channel 9 spoke with the homeowners, who have two small children, off camera who said they weren’t at home at the time of the fire, and had just went to the store. The homeowners have a pet fish who died in the fire.

A neighbor called the fire in.

Officials told Channel 9 that the fire department was behind on the call and had trouble finding the home because they had the wrong address.

“The original caller was not from one of these homes on either side,” Denver Fire Chief Jay Flynn said. “It was actually from across the way.”

Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.
