Firefighters say one killed, another flown to hospital after car crashes into tree

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Emergency officials said one person was killed and another seriously injured after a car crashed into a tree in Cabarrus County early Monday.

The crash happened just before 5 a.m. on Lower Rocky River Road near Monterosa Road.

Firefighters said one person in the car was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

There was no word yet on what caused the crash and no names have been released.

Lower Rocky River Road was closed between Pioneer Mill Road and Monterosa Road before troopers reopened it before 9 a.m.
