Former teacher accused of stabbing, killing boyfriend granted bail

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Dozens of people packed an Iredell County courtroom Tuesday to support a former teacher who is charged with murder.

Dawn Kavanaugh is accused of stabbing and killing her boyfriend, Ronald Ketchum, last month.

She has been held without bond since then.

On Tuesday, her attorneys argued that he lack of criminal record and her ties to the community should give her a chance to get out of jail.

The Mooresville Tribune reported the judge eventually gave her a $200,000 bail.

kavanaugh taught sixth-grade social studies at Lakeshore Middle School and recently received the "Teacher of the Year" award.
