Fort Bragg soldier discharged after hazing leads to suicide

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Officials said a soldier has been discharged from Fort Bragg after officials said hazing a private so badly he killed himself.

Tavis Carden will also serve 10 months in prison and will be demoted to private.

He pleaded guilty to several charges Thursday.

Military investigators said Pvt. Danny Chen, 29, killed himself in Afghanistan last year after being harassed by other soldiers.

Carden's trial, as well as seven others, are being held at Fort Bragg because the unit was being commanded by the 82nd Airborne Division.
