Fort Mill community pays tribute to deputy killed in line of duty in 2018

FORT MILL, S.C. — The Fort Mill community came together on Saturday to keep the legacy of a fallen deputy alive.

Back in 2018, York County Detective Mike Doty was shot and killed by a domestic violence suspect.

Keystone Substance Abuse Services hosted the second annual Mike Doty Memorial Race at Walter Elisha Park on Saturday.

Doty’s brother also ran in the race.

“I can tell you we’re grateful. Running was something that Mike enjoyed a lot,” Chris Doty said. “To be able to come out here, support Keystone and the great work they do to try to end substance abuse, and be able to run at the same time in memory of our brother, our friend ... grateful.”

Organizers said their goal was to continue Detective Doty’s legacy regarding the prevention of underage drinking.
