Trooper: Driver in I-77 crash hits Mecklenburg County deputy's car

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Four people were taken to the hospital after a crash in north Charlotte, Medic officials said. The crash happened around 8 p.m. Sunday at Interstate 77 and Sunset Road.

A trooper said a driver struck a Mecklenburg County sheriff's deputy. The impact caused the deputy's car to spin into a wall across the highway, hitting another vehicle.

The driver was charged with high rate of speed careless and reckless driving.

The deputy was identified as Terry Boatwright. He was riding with a female passenger.

Medic officials said four people were injured, but will be OK.
