CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Channel 9 spoke with former NFL player and York County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Scurlock Thursday morning about Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer Brentley Vinson, who investigators said shot and killed Keith Scott on Tuesday.
Eyewitness News anchor Blaine Tolison sat down with Scurlock, who said he spoke to Vinson the night the shooting happened.

Scurlock has a great deal of respect for his friend, who he knows as Brent Vinson, and said the officer is hurting having had gone through something like this.
Scurlock knows Vinson because they both played football and tried to play in the NFL.
Police said Vinson shot and killed Scott Tuesday evening in northeast Charlotte. They said Scott had a gun, but family members claim he wasn't armed.
Scurlock wouldn't comment about those details, but said he knows Vinson as a good person and was excited to be a police officer.
He also said he's praying for Vinson.
"One of the things I wanted for him to know is that we're here for him,” said Scurlock. “Feel free to reach out to me when and if you need to. Our family, we'll be praying for and your family."
Scurlock said he is also praying for Scott's family.
