Fundraiser held for Burke County deputy hurt in wreck

BURKE COUNTY — The Chick-fil-A in Morganton hosted the Cops on Top fundraiser Friday for Burke County Deputy Daniel Cobb.

Cobb was driving his cruiser responding to a call early on June 9 on Highway 18 when authorities said a teenager driving with headlights off turned around in the roadway and collided with Cobb.

The 16-year-old was driving his grandmother's car and did not have a driver's license, authorities said.

Numerous law enforcement officers from multiple agencies and other emergency responders collected donations from patrons at the Chick-fil-A.

Cobb and his family were at the fundraiser, thanking supporters for their donations and prayers.

Cobb and Sheriff Steve Whisenant received a $727 check from Taylorsville Police Chief Dennis James, money that came from the citizens of Alexander County.
