Funeral set for man shot in uptown during Charlotte riots

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A funeral is planned for the man killed in riots last week that followed the shooting death of Keith Scott by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Justin Carr's funeral is scheduled for noon Wednesday at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church. Receiving is set for 11 a.m.

Carr was shot in the head Sept. 21 outside the Omni hotel during violent protests following the shooting death of Scott.

Carr's mother said his grandmother marched alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and that he just wanted to make her proud.

He was also about to become a father in November.

Carr died the next day, and Rayquan Borum faces a murder charge in his death.

Channel 9 looked through an arrest warrant Wednesday morning and learned police used surveillance cameras from outside the Omni to identify Borum as the person who shot Carr.

They arrested him at his house, where they also located guns.

Police said Borum confessed to shooting Carr. He has a bond hearing next week.
