Gas line rupture closes busy south Charlotte road

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hazmat crews were working to repair a gas line that ruptured Monday morning in south Charlotte.

Charlotte firefighters were working to fix the 6-inch gas line near Rea Road and MacAndrew Drive around 9:30 a.m.

Police had Rea Road closed at Shadow Pond Lane.

It took emergency crews roughly 45 minutes to cap the gas line and Piedmont utility crews were on scene.

There were no evacuations and officials said Rea Road would be reopened sometime Monday afternoon.

Officials have not said exactly how long they anticipate having the road closed.
