Gas station worker shoots at man suspected in 2 late-night robberies

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said two late-night robberies in north and west Charlotte are connected and authorities need the public’s help finding the man responsible.

Officers said the crimes happened within 10 minutes of each other.

The first robbery took place around 10 p.m. at the Express Mart on Statesville Road at Cindy Lane in north Charlotte. Police said the suspect was wearing a surgical mask and was armed with a gun and demanded money.

A customer and clerk were inside at the time, but neither was hurt.

About 10 minutes later, police said a man matching the same description held up a Shell gas station on Glenwood Drive in west Charlotte.

Detectives said one of the employees fired their gun at the suspect, but police do not think he was hit.

No one inside the store was hurt.

Police have not said if either robbery was captured on surveillance video, and no images of the suspect have been released.
