Driver charged with DWI, accused of crashing into building with daughter in truck

DALLAS, N.C. — The driver of a truck is accused of running his vehicle through an intersection and crashing into a building Tuesday morning in Gaston County.

Officials with the North Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver was heading down Ashbrook Park Road in Dallas and didn’t stop at the intersection with High Shoals Highway.

The truck then slammed into a storage building at approximately 60 miles per hour with the driver and his daughter inside, officials said.

The driver was reportedly taking his daughter to school, and he told Channel 9 that he crashed because he was blinded by the sun.

Channel 9 has been told he's being charged with driving while impaired after further investigation by troopers.

Eyewitness News reporter Ken Lemon is gathering more information from officials and will have a full report on the crash on Channel 9 starting at 6 p.m.
