Gaston County commissioners have given the green light to spend $1.5 million on new vehicles.
Most of the money -- $1.2 million -- will be used to buy cars, trucks, vans and ambulances. Another $311,000 will be used to buy equipment, pay for decals, taxes and title fees.
County leaders said this is a necessary investment that can't be delayed any longer.
