GASTON COUNTY - The Gaston County Police Department has purchased a new patrol boat for use with the Marine Enforcement Unit.
Channel 9 got a look at the patrol boat on Saturday. It will be used to make sure boaters are staying safe on the water.
“We have noticed most of our proactive things such as boating while impaired have gone down. I think just our presence out here has definitely opened people’s eyes up,” said Marine Enforcement Officer Doug Hurd.
The police department bought the boat using money it had left over in a drug asset account.
