Man accused of targeting elderly victims arrested in Gaston County

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Gaston County police arrested a man Wednesday who was wanted for crimes involving elderly victims.

Brian Carver is accused in two armed robberies in Dallas. Investigators told Channel 9 they’re also looking into whether Carver could be related to the disappearance of a 90-year-old man, although no charges have been filed against him related to that case.

Channel 9 is gathering details on how Gaston County police tracked down Carver and the charges he faces.

Channel 9 spoke with the latest victim Tuesday evening.

An 80-year-old man said he was inside his home in Dallas Saturday when Carver, who once did yard work for him, asked for a ride.

The victim told Channel 9 that during the ride Carver put a gun to his head, forced him to drive home, where he robbed him and his wife.

The victim said Carver then made him drive miles away before forcing him out of the truck and driving away.

Days before, police said Carver robbed and assaulted another elderly man in Dallas. Investigators said in that case, Carver also went to the home pretending he needed help.

Carver is well-known to law enforcement. Last fall, Channel 9 was in court as Carver faced charges for assaulting and threatening to kill a woman.

That came just one year after he was arrested on charges he raped a mentally disabled woman. At the time, prosecutors said he’d been arrested five times that year.

Authorities are now looking to see if there is a connection between Carver and the missing man.

Ray Jackson was reported missing by his son on March 7. His body was discovered about a week later on Landers Church Road.

Jackson’s son is pleading for the public to be on the lookout for his father’s missing car.

The vehicle is a maroon colored 2000 Ford Contour.
