Homeowner escapes unharmed as flames destroy Gastonia house

GASTONIA, N.C. — A Gastonia home was destroyed in a fire early Sunday morning.

Firefighters said they got the call around 4:45 a.m. When they got to the home in the 200 block of S. Trenton Street, the flames were shooting up into the sky.

They got the blaze under control in 15 minutes, but the damage was done.

One person who was inside when the fire broke out was able to escape unhurt.

Investigators said the fire was started by an unattended candle.
