Gastonia man faces accusations of sex offense with child

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Gaston County police charged Barry Chris Phillips, of Gastonia, on Thursday with three counts of first-degree sex offense with a child and three counts of indecent liberties with a child.

Phillips is in custody at the Gaston County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

The investigation into the allegations began in December 2013, and the offenses occurred between June 2012 and December 2013, police said. Charges allege the offenses happened at 6520 Union Road, where Phillips was residing.

Phillips has previous felony convictions involving minors.
