Giffords may make appearance at DNC, husband says

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, may be in Charlotte for the Democratic National Convention, according to Kelly, who spoke at a luncheon for police officers Wednesday.

He said it’s a cause that means a lot to him because of what happened to his wife and because his parents are police officers.

He also said Giffords is doing well and plans to return to public service.

“I’m just inspired by how hard someone can fight. As she heads out the door to go to rehab, she often says ‘Fight, fight, fight.’ She’s not going to give up; she’s going to get better,” he said.

Kelly said Giffords has a busy schedule and is in rehab six days a week. Her rehab schedule will ultimately determine whether the couple will make it to Charlotte for the DNC.
