Group in NC petitions to keep federal building from being named after late U.S. senator

RALEIGH, N.C. — A political group in North Carolina is petitioning online to keep a historic federal building in Raleigh from being named after a late U.S. senator.

Wednesday, Rep. Renee Ellmers introduced the measure to rename the downtown century post office after Jesse Helms, but members of Progress NC said Helms' name brings up hurt and anger.

The group said hundreds of people have already signed the petition.
