CHARLOTTE - White Lodging maintains Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton and Westin hotel franchises. It is not clear how many customers have been impacted. The breach exposed credit and debit card information for guests who stayed at certain hotels between March and December 2013.
An independent security researcher uncovered the massive breach, but was confused by fraud patterns among cards used at Marriott properties. The common thread is that all are managed by White Lodging.
The company issued a statement Sunday saying an investigation is in progress and officials will provide information as soon as they can.
White Lodging maintains more than 160 full-service hotels in 21 states. They do not maintain any in North or South Carolina; most are in the Northeast, Midwest and Texas.
