Harrisburg council rezoning approval to make way for new hotel

HARRISBURG, N.C. — The Harrisburg town council approved a rezoning request that will allow a hotel to be developed by Venture Church, Channel 9's partner, the Independent Tribune, reported.

The hotel will include 93 rooms, a 350-seat auditorium, a daycare facility and a full-service restaurant.

The building will span about 8 acres along Rocky River Road.

The event center at the hotel will be used as a religious site certain days of the week.

David Henderson, lead pastor at Venture Church, said the church has used schools to hold their services in the past and now they are now looking for their own space.

“One of the reasons we are 16 years down the road and not having a facility is because we only wanted to build a facility that could be used seven days a week, rather than primarily building a church that would be used one and a half days a week,” Henderson said. “We just think it’s a better stewardship of resources and stewardship of land use.”

The project looks to create more than 100 jobs.
