Health department helping residents register for health care

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Mecklenburg County Health Department is accepting appointments to assist residents in registration for the Affordable Care Act, also referred to as Obamacare.

Appointments can be made in Health Department locations at 249 Billingsley Road and 2845 Beatties Ford Road.

People can also sign up for a time by calling the Health Department Appointment Line at 980-314-0950. An operator will be available during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

As a certified application counselor organization, the Health Department has trained counselors on hand to help guide the public through the new health insurance marketplace.

Eligible residents can choose from a variety of insurance plans offered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and Coventry Health Care of the Carolinas.

The ACA open enrollment period runs from Oct. 1 through March 31, 2014.

You can also contact the federal toll-free call center at 800-318-2596 to complete an application by phone.
