Health officials warn of shigella in Iredell Co.

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Health officials have issued a warning about an infection that's spreading through Iredell County.

They've seen an increase in shigella cases.

Officials are encouraging people to wash their hands and stay home from work if they have symptoms.

Some of the symptoms of shigella include stomach cramps, fever and diarrhea.

Back in October, there was an outbreak in Cabarrus County.

Officials say it all started at Bethel Elementary School.

They said shigella cases then spread to C.C. Griffin Middle School and eventually some cases were even confirmed in Rowan County.
