Hembree found guilty of first-degree murder

GASTON COUNTY, N.C.,None — Accused serial killer Danny Hembree was found guilty of first-degree murder Tuesday afternoon.

The jury deliberated for less than six hours before returning the verdict.

About an hour into deliberations, the jury requested transcripts from testimony and taped interviews with Hembree.

Those interviews include hours of Hembree admitting to killing Heather Catterton and two other women. Tuesday's guilty verdict was for the death of 17-year-old Heather Catterton.

Hembree's attorney argued that drugs caused Catterton's death.

Last week, the jury went to the Oakstone Circle where Hembree is accused of killing Catterton and Saldona in 2009. The other killing he is accused of happened in 1992.
