Homeowner arrested after shooting, killing man with shotgun, deputies say

CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies are investigating what led to a man shooting another man to death inside a home in Cleveland County Sunday night.

Deputies were called to the home, on James Petty Road in Casar, for a reported shooting, and once they arrived they found William Milan lying on the dining room floor with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Paramedics pronounced Milan dead at the scene.

Investigators told Channel 9 that the homeowner, William Harmon, was involved in a fight with Milan inside the home. Harmon pulled out a shotgun and the men struggled over the weapon, deputies said.

During the struggle, Milan was shot once in the stomach.

Harmon called 911 and was taken into custody at the scene.

“This incident is tragic; however, the sheriff’s office will conduct a thorough investigation,” said Sheriff Alan Norman. “It is the aim of the sheriff’s office to ensure all investigations are conducted meticulously and professional, regardless of the situation.”

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office will present the results of its investigation to the District Attorney’s Office to determine if criminal charges will be filed.
