Homes to be demolished Sunday due to damage by Sandy

On Sunday, hundreds of homes damaged by Superstorm Sandy will be demolished.

Almost all are one- and two -family homes on Staten Island, in Queens and in Brooklyn.

Nearly 500 other damaged buildings in the area are still being inspected to decide whether they will need to be demolished as well.

On top of structural damage, Superstorm Sandy also badly damaged or destroyed hundreds of trees.

Specialists are trying to figure out how to go about re-planting those trees,

Experts said the Superstorm took out more trees in New York and New Jersey than any other storm on record.

Nearly 10,000 trees were lost in New York City alone.

New Jersey Utilities reported more than 113,000 destroyed or damaged trees.
