Hornets Miles Bridges pleads not guilty to felony domestic violence, child abuse, ESPN reports

LOS ANGELES — Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges pleaded not guilty Wednesday during an arraignment to domestic violence and child abuse charges after an arrest in California last month, ESPN reported.

The Los Angeles District Attorney announced Tuesday that Miles had been formally charged.

The alleged assault on Bridge’s girlfriend happened in front of their two children on or about June 27 and 28, according to the criminal complaint.

Bridges was arrested on June 29 by Los Angeles police and was later released on $130,000 bond.

Bridges, 24, faces one felony count of injuring a child’s parent and two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death.

“Domestic violence creates physical, mental and emotional trauma that has a lasting impact on survivors,” District Attorney Gascón said. “Children who witness family violence are especially vulnerable and the impact on them is immeasurable. Mr. Bridges will be held accountable for his actions and our Bureau of Victim Services will support the survivors through this difficult process.”

Bridges averaged career highs with 20.2 points and seven rebounds in what amounted to a breakout season for the four-year NBA veteran while playing alongside All-Star point guard LaMelo Ball.

Mychelle Johnson, the mother of Bridges’ two young children, addressed the incident on Instagram on July 1, posting several pictures of injuries and a medical report that read “adult victim of physical abuse by male partner; Assault by strangulation, Brain concussion; Closed fracture of nasal bone; Contusion of rib; Multiple bruises; Strain of neck muscle.”

Bridges’ case was continued to Aug. 19, when a date for a preliminary hearing is slated to be scheduled, ESPN reported.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Hornets statement: “We are aware of the charges that were filed today against Miles Bridges. These are very serious charges that we will continue to monitor. As this is a legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”
