WATCH: Hornets player helps Charlotte families pay for Thanksgiving food

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The average Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people costs $50 this year, but for some Charlotte families, it didn't cost them a penny.

Charlotte Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist decided to stop by a local Food Lion last week and surprised families by paying for their Thanksgiving groceries.

A representative for the Hornets said Kidd-Gilchrist came up with the idea, and saw it as a way to help those in the community who are less fortunate.

“I'm doing this from the bottom of my heart and I want to see families happy for the holidays,” Kidd-Gilchrist said.
