CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As Tropical Storm Hermine gains steam and makes landfall in Florida, Channel 9 is reaching out to Charlotte leaders about the plans for the city's stormwater preparations, and how Duke Energy is getting ahead of the possible damage the storm could leave in its wake across the Charlotte region.
Stuart Creek Crossing is just one of several areas that Mecklenburg County stormwater officials plan to keep a close eye on in the coming days.
Officials told Channel 9 that the creek is one of dozens of trouble spots across the county prone to flooding.
Workers have been out clearing debris from storm drains across the city in preparation for the storm.
In order to prevent heavy flooding, they're also asking the public to clean out their own storm drains near their homes.
Officials said you should call 311 if you need help.
In addition, they're asking people who live in low-lying areas to come up with an escape route, just in case the area experiences heavy flooding.
Their number one concern is the rain coming Thursday night, and warn of heavy ground saturation and a lot of run off when the tropical storm rolls through.
