Humane Society releases update on puppy mill rescue

CHARLOTTE — The Humane Society of Charlotte released an update Sunday about the animals rescued from the puppy mill on Friday.

More than 50 dogs, 6 cats rescued from suspected puppy mill

The organization said in a post on their Facebook page:

"We have received many emails and phone calls asking about the status of adoptions for them. As of today, Sunday, they are still being evaluated for medical and behavior needs. When they are available, they will be placed on our website at http://www.humanecharlotte.org."

More than 50 dogs and six cats were rescued from a suspected puppy mill in Rutherford County.

The district attorney is waiting for a report from veterinarians before deciding whether or not to press charges. The decision could come within the next week.

Veterinarians are caring for the animals at the Humane Society of Charlotte, Iredell County Animal Shelter, Brother Wolf of Asheville and Cahiers Highland Humane Society.
